Abstract

We apply the perturbation method to study the elastic equilibrium of a stressed homogeneous isotropic half-space with a smooth free surface and with an interior fault for the three-dimensional case. The small parameter is the ratio of the maximum relief amplitude to the minimum distance between the fault and the surface. The results show that the relief cannot be neglected in the interpretation of seismotectonic crustal movement data.
